The 4 Tower Oncology Unit is a 12-bed unit. The primary focus is the treatment of adult patients admitted for aggressive chemotherapy or radiation therapy, pain management with terminal disease, or supportive care through the terminal illness process. The Oncology Unit also provides services for various other diagnoses including sickle cell disease. There is also an outpatient oncology care center with the capability of caring for 6 patients. The Center is utilized for outpatient procedures and treatment.
The Oncology staff consists of RNs, NAs and Unit Techs. All RNs must complete a chemotherapy course and pass a test prior to administration of chemotherapeutic drugs. The oncology nurse is expected to demonstrate skill and knowledge in the treatment and care of each cancer patient. Certification for oncology is encouraged.
